Capital Gains: SMCC Baseball Doubles Up on UMA
AUGUSTA, MAINE – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) opened Saturday’s twin bill with a 7-6 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta at the Capital Area Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves jumped ahead with two runs in the first and another in the third. UMA clawed back with two in the fourth, but SMCC broke it open in the sixth with a four-run rally. Thomas Marcotte (Acushnet, Mass.) doubled to drive in a pair, while Dom Smith (Biddeford, Maine) and Landon Sirois (Biddeford, Maine) also came through with RBIs to extend the lead to 7-2.
UMA stormed back in the seventh with four runs, but Mattias Cobham (Saint John, Canada) came on to record the final outs and secure the win.
Starter Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) worked five solid innings, allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts.

SMCC's offense erupted in game 2, scoring in all five innings on the way to a 15-3 run-rule victory to complete the sweep.
Dom Smith stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Quinntin Gillies (Oshawa, Ontario) reached base four times, scoring three runs with an RBI. Alex Bartlett (Thomaston, Maine) and Landon Sirois each added two RBIs, while Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) knocked in a pair.
On the mound, Zach Kassim (Fr.) made the start and struck out three in two innings. Noah Gaghan (Brunswick, Maine) followed with two strong frames, earning the win, before Mitchel Violette (Fr.) closed the fifth.
