HOW IT HAPPENED:
SMCC struck first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) came around to score on a Northern Essex error before Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to center, giving the Seawolves an early 2-0 lead.
Northern Essex answered in the third inning, tying the game on a triple from the leadoff spot and an RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
The hosts took control in the fourth, planting five runs on five hits to grab a 7-2 advantage. Northern Essex continued to apply pressure in the sixth, adding four more runs to stretch the lead to 11-2.
SMCC tallied its final run in the seventh when Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) swiped third and later scored as Quinntin Gillies (Oshawa, Ontario) reached on an error.
The Seawolves collected six hits in the loss, with Herkalo leading the way with two hits. Wilcox, Pierce, Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine), and Noah Gaghan (Brunswick, Maine) each added one hit.
