HOW IT HAPPENED
Great Bay struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors extended their advantage in the second inning, plating two more runs on a pair of RBI groundouts to go in front 3-0.
SMCC answered in the bottom half of the second inning, as Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) scored on an RBI single from Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) to cut into the deficit. Great Bay responded by tacking on a run in the top of the third off of a sacrifice fly to bring the game to 4-1.
The Seawolves added a run in the third inning when Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) came around to score on a groundout by Potié, making it 4-2.
The score held steady through the middle innings as both teams received strong pitching performances.
Trailing by two entering the seventh, the Seawolves mounted a rally. Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) came around to score on a Great Bay error to make it 4-3. Moments later, Nick St. Cyr (Rutland, Mass.) crossed the plate on an RBI single from Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) to tie the game.
With runners still on, Herkalo delivered the game-winning hit, lacing a single to center field to score Mitchel Violette (Westbrook, Maine) and complete the walk-off victory.
