2013-14 Lady Seawolves Basketball Headlines
Farmington, PA - At last night's USCAA All-American banquet two SMCC student-athletes, Jose Nouchanthavong and Danielle McCusker, were named to the USCAA DII All-American teams.
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – University of Maine at Augusta sophomore Arreonte Lee (San Antonio, Tex.) gave her team the lead and joined the 1,000 point club on the same play Saturday afternoon, as the third seeded Moose defeated second seeded Southern Maine Community College 75-67 to advance to the championship game tomorrow afternoon against Central Maine Community College.
South Portland - Trailing by three points, 58-55, with 1:10 seconds remaining in regulation Lady Seawolves' shooting guard Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) netted a shot from behind the arc to tie the game while teammate Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) simultaneously got fouled and sent to the free throw line for a one-and-one. Palmieri iced two free throws to put the Seawolves on top 60-58
South Portland - In this afternoon's last regular season women's basketball contest the Lady Seawolves used a balanced offensive attack, putting all nine players in the scoring column, and defensive pressure, forcing 30 turnovers, to defeat the Lady Knights of Vermont Technical College by a score of 88-47.
Auburn - Tonight the Lady Seawolves traveled north to face off against conference rival Central Maine Community College, a battle of the conference #1 and #2 seeds. The Lady Mustangs were able to force the Lady Seawolves into 29 turnovers, coupled with the mere 41.7% SMCC shot from the free throw line, 10-24, allowing CMCC to come away with the 68-55 defeat.
South Portland - The Lady Seawolves knocked down four of their nine three pointers in the opening ten minutes of tonight's women's basketball action, allowing them to jump out to 30-4 lead with 7:08 remaining in the first half tonight against the Lady Clippers of the University of Maine - Machias. The Lady Clippers battled back in the second half, outscoring the Seawolves by one point in the second twenty minutes, but it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit as the Seawolves pulled out the 82-59 victory.
South Portland - In tonight's women's basketball action the Lady Seawolves faced off against the Lady Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute. The Seawolves trailed by three with 12:14 remaining in the first half but Seawolves' forward Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) sparked a run with her aggressive play in the paint to put SMCC on top 42-30 going into halftime. The Seawolves widen the lead to 21 points with 9:40 remaining in regulation and came away with a 81-66 victory.
South Portland - In this afternoon's women's basketball action the Lady Owls of UMaine - Presque Isle shot a perfect 13-13 from the charity stripe in the first half to give the Owls a 37-27 lead over the Lady Seawolves going into halftime. In the second half the Lady Owls shot an impressive 50% from the floor, 67% from the 3 point line and 85% from the free throw line to come away with the 72-54 victory.
South Portland - The defensive intensity by the Lady Seawolves forced the Lady Rams of Unity College into 52 turnovers as the Seawolves came out with the 91-24 victory in tonight's YSCC women's basketball matchup.
Machias - In tonight's YSCC women's basketball action the Lady Seawolves of SMCC used full court defensive pressure, resulting in 18 steals, and offensive transition to defeat the Lady Clippers of the University of Maine - Machias by a score of 80-42.
South Portland - After trailing by one point at the half in tonight's YSCC women's basketball action, the Lady Seawolves came out reenergized after the break to pull away from the Lady Moose from the University of Maine - Augusta to grab the 69-61 victory.
Newport, RI - In this afternoon's women's basketball action the Lady Rams of the Naval Academy Prepatory School jumped out to an early lead in the first minutes of regulation and extended that lead to nine points by halftime, 38-29. In the second half the Lady Seawolves closed the gap to within one point, 52-51, but the Lady Rams answered and pulled away with the 66-57 victory.
South Portland - The uptempo, balanced scoring attack of the Lady Seawolves was too much for the Lady Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College as SMCC soared to a 80-46 victory
South Portland - In this afternoon's women's basketball action the Lady Seawolves overcame a 10 point halftime deficit to defeat the Lady Islanders of John Abbott College by two points, 59-57.
Rutland, VT - Tonight the Lady Seawolves traveled to Vermont for their first YSCC contest since Before the winter break to take on the Lady Saints of St. Joseph's College. After a slow first half by both teams, the Lady Seawolves went into halftime with a one point advantage with the score 21-20. In the second half the Lady Seawolves found their rythmn, shooting a much improved 37% from the field and pulling away from the Lady Saint to end the contest at 63-47.
New York - The defensive pressure of the Lady Seawolves in today's basketball contest held the Lady Warriors of Vaughn College to just six points in the first half of play, giving the Seawolves a 53-6 advantage at the break. SMCC picked up 32 steals in this afternoon's contest, Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) and Nyalieb Deng (Portland, ME) each picked up seven steals as Lady Seawolves rolled to a 93-15 victory.
