HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves struck early, manufacturing two runs in the first inning with effective baserunning. Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) walked and stole second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Thomas Marcotte (New Bedford, Mass.). Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) later came home during the inning to give SMCC a 2-0 lead.
Southern Maine broke the game open in the second, plating five runs to build a 7-0 advantage. Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) drew a walk to start the rally, and Ash Rollins (Phillips, Maine) was hit by a pitch before a balk moved both runners into scoring position. Wilcox later walked to force in a run, while Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) delivered a two-run single to center that highlighted the inning.
UMaine Fort Kent chipped away with three runs in the second and added single runs in the fifth and seventh to trim the deficit to 7-5.
The Seawolves added an insurance run in the eighth when Herkalo singled, advanced to third, and scored on another sacrifice fly from Marcotte.
On the mound, Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) earned the win after striking out four across three innings in his start. Trent Collin (Readfield, Maine), Aidan Dolan (Weymouth, Mass.), and Garrett McLeod (Winterport, Maine) combined in relief to secure the victory, with McLeod closing the door in the ninth.

WATERVILLE, MAINE - Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball completed the series sweep Monday afternoon, defeating the University of Maine at Fort Kent 12-7 at Colby College on Monday March 9, 2026.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SMCC jumped on the board in the first when Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Thomas Marcotte (New Bedford, Mass.).
After UMFK tied the game in the second, the Seawolves answered immediately. Quinntin Gillies (Oshawa, Ontario) doubled and scored on a Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) RBI double to give SMCC a 2-1 lead.
Southern Maine broke the game open with a four-run third inning. Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) tripled and scored on an error before Marcotte delivered an RBI single. Michael Pierce (Greenfield, Mass.) later added an RBI single as the Seawolves built a 6-2 advantage.
UMaine-Fort Kent responded with four runs in the fourth to briefly tie the game, but the Seawolves answered right back with a three-run frame. Boulette was hit by a pitch to begin the rally, and two runs scored on a throwing error before Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) grounded into a double play that still brought home the go-ahead run.
SMCC added two more runs in the fifth, capitalizing on walks, hit batters, and aggressive baserunning before tacking on another insurance run in the sixth.
Cole Payne (Bangor, Maine) started and struck out five across three innings. Nick St. Cyr (Freshman) worked two innings in relief before Jacob Watkinson (Owls Head, Maine) closed out the final two innings to secure the win.
