HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Seawolves wasted no time jumping ahead, plating two runs in the opening frame. Tyler Herkalo (Parkton, Md.) ripped an RBI double to left before Samuel Potié (Gatineau, Quebec) followed with a run-scoring single to give SMCC an early 2-0 advantage.
SMCC added to its lead in the second, capitalizing on patience at the plate and defensive miscues. Thomas Marcotte (New Bedford, Mass.) reached on an error by NHTI's M Mackenzie while Connor Boulette (Westbrook, Maine) Potié delivered another RBI single, while Tristan Laplante (Durham, Maine) drove in two with a base hit as SMCC extended its lead to 6-0.
The Seawolves broke the game open in the third inning, plating 10 runs on five hits. Laplante highlighted the frame with a two-run double, while Boulette added a two-run double of his own. Bryce Wilcox (Strong, Maine) chipped in an RBI single as SMCC pushed its lead into double digits.
Southern Maine kept the pressure on in the fourth, scoring eight more runs on seven hits. Marcotte delivered a two-run single, Laplante added two more RBIs, and Noah Gaghan (Brunswick, Maine) capped the inning with an RBI knock as the Seawolves extended the lead to 24-1.
The Seawolves tallied their final run in the top of the sixth on a fielder's choice that scored Ash Rollins (Phillips, Maine).
On the mound, Cole Payne (Bangor, Maine) earned the win, allowing a single hit and one run (unearned) over three innings while striking out four. Trent Collin (Readfield, Maine) provided two shutout innings in relief, striking out three as the Seawolves limited NHTI to two hits on the day.
